Northern Michigan captured its first of back-to-back NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships with a 3-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 6, 1993. NMU won with scores of 4-15, 15-5, 15-3, 15-10 to win its first ever volleyball National Championship.
The win over Cal State Bakersfield capped off a 38-1 seson for the Wildcats. The win avenged the only loss the Wildcats had received that season as Cal State Bakersfield beat NMU 3-2 at the Portland State Showcase that October.
The win was the 32nd straight for the Wildcats. Stacy Metro led the Wildcats that year en route to winning the Honda Award as the Division II Female Athlete of the Year.
