MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan University announced the hiring of Jen Dobias as sports information director on Thursday. “I look forward to Jen joining our team,” said director of athletics Forrest Karr. “She has a very well-rounded skill set and did a great job throughout the interview process.”
Dobias spent the past year at South Dakota State University, where she served as the primary media contact for the women’s soccer, cross country, track and field and tennis teams. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to join the Northern Michigan team,” said Dobias. “The Wildcats have a bright future, and I'm looking forward to being a part of it."
Before joining the South Dakota State staff, Dobias worked in areas of news and sports. She spent time in 2011 and 2012 in the sports section of the Courier-Post, where she was responsible for writing feature stories on local athletes and penning enterprise articles on issues of note to the local community.
In 2013, Dobias was with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins. She was with the Penguins for the Calder Cup playoffs and helped manage the press box and the team’s social media pages during home games.
A native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Dobias graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in communication. While there, she worked for the school’s department of athletics as a feature writer and for the dining services department as a social media coordinator. She also regularly freelanced for the College Hockey News, primarily covering the WCHA.
Northern Michigan’s search for a full-time assistant sports information director is now underway.
