Christopher Smith was hired as the Intramural Sports and Outdoor Recreation Manager in August of 2015.
Smith came to Northern Michigan University from Valparaiso University, where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and Masters of Science in Sports Administration. In addition to earning his Master’s degree, Smith also worked as the Graduate Assistant of Recreational Sports from July 2013-June 2015.
Smith’s duties at NMU consist of managing the Outdoor Recreation Center and the Intramural Sports program. Smith is responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating of student employees in the ORC and IM Sports department, as well as offering intramural leagues and special events for the students, faculty, staff and community members on NMU’s campus.
Smith is a MHSAA certified Soccer official, an American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor and an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. He is also a current professional member of NIRSA and MIRSA. He has also served on a variety of committees for professional development workshops and conferences within the NIRSA organization.
Originally from Manistee, Michigan, Smith enjoys playing intramural sports, being outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.
