Katie (Theut) Moe began her full-time career at Northern Michigan University in 2008 as the Fitness & Informal Recreation Manager for the Rec Sports Department.
Katie manages and facilitates programming of the PEIF recreation facility and is responsible for the training, development, and management of student staff within the Aquatic, Facility operations, Fitness, Informal Recreation, and Outdoor Recreation areas.
Katie originally joined the Rec Sports Staff in the fall of 2000, as an undergrad. During that time she held a wide range of positions in Aquatics, Fitness, American Red Cross Certification Instruction, and Facility operations. She received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training in 2004 and became certified through the NATABOC shortly thereafter. In the fall of 2004, she continued working with NMU Rec Sports as a Graduate Assistant. Throughout her assistantship, Katie was able to assist in the management of the Outdoor Recreation Center and group fitness courses. In 2006, Katie earned her Master of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in swimming research. After a brief stint teaching for the NMU HPER department, Katie left NMU and began working at the University of Minnesota as the Aquatic Program Manager.
Katie is currently certified as an Athletic Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, American Red Cross Instructor/Instructor Trainer in Lifeguarding, Water Safety, Waterfront lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Wilderness & Remote First Aid. Katie is a member of NIRSA and NATA. Additionally, Katie volunteers as part of the City of Marquette Waterfront Safety Task Force and assists with NMU Swim Team meet management.
Katie is "unofficially" from Marquette, as she has lived in Lower Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin before coming to the Upper Peninsula. In her spare time, Katie enjoys the many outdoor recreational opportunities that Marquette and the Upper Peninsula have to offer. She and her husband Eric (NMU '01) reside in Marquette with two children.
