  • NMU Football Announces Team Award Winners

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Head coach Chris Ostrowsky of the Northern Michigan University football team named the individual team honorees on Saturday (April 26) at the Sports Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Awards Banquet. On the offensive side, senior wide receiver Christian Jessie (Most Valuable Player), junior wide receiver Marcus Tucker (Newcomer Award) and sophomore running back Wyatt Jurasin (Most Improved) notched awards. For the defense it was junior linebacker Nick Krause (Most Valuable Player), freshman defensive back Chris Washington (Newcomer Award), junior defensive lineman Trever Kruzel (Most Improved) and the Scholar Athlete Awards were given to sophomore linebacker Loran Jaddou and junior defensive lineman Jordan Adediran.

  • Commemorative Gifts Available For Nystrom Scholarship Donors

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Earlier this fall, the Northern Michigan University athletic department announced the Coach Buck Nystrom Football Scholarship established by former players, coaching colleagues and friends. The scholarship was created in honor of the legendary Northern Michigan University Wildcat football coach. According to the former players creating the scholarship, it is meant to honor "Coach Buck," who is the very epitome of perseverance, "a man with the heart of a true Wildcat."
  • Parson, Harley Chosen NMU Student-Athlete Scholars

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Athletic Council announced Friday that senior football player Brandon Parson and senior volleyball player Kellisha Harley have been named Student-Athlete Scholar of the Month for October and November, respectively. Parson was nominated by faculty member Mike Martin while Harley was nominated by faculty member Mary Stunkard.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team closed out the 2013 season, under second-year head coach Chris Ostrowsky with a 3-7 overall and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record. All three of their wins came in the Superior Dome. The Wildcats finished in 11th place in the GLIAC out of 15 teams.
  • Football Wraps Up Season at Ferris State

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team closes out the 2013 season on Saturday (Nov. 16) at noon with a game on the road at Ferris State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. In the all-time series, the Bulldogs lead, 18-15-6 in 39 meetings dating back to 1946. In 2012, FSU beat NMU, 32-21, in Marquette. The last game played in Big Rapids was in 2011 when the Wildcats were defeated 35-6.
  • Wildcats Close Out Season at Ferris State

    BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Wildcat senior Christian Jessie returned the opening kick-off 100 yards to put the Northern Michigan University Wildcats up 7-0 at Top Taggart Field, but Jason Vander Laan and the Ferris State Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Wildcats to handle. The Bulldogs used 536 yards of total offense to defeat the Wildcats, 35-22, in the final game of the 2013 Northern Michigan University Football season. The Wildcats finished the season 3-7 overall and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Ferris State finished the regular season at 8-3 overall, 8-2 in GLIAC play.

The Wildcats travel to University Center, Mich. to take on Saginaw Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 1 p.m.

    UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State Cardinal offense proved to be too much for the Northern Michigan University Football Wildcats to handle as the Cardinals dominated the Wildcats enroute to a 52-17 victory on Saturday, November 9. The Wildcats fall to 3-6 on the year and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Cardinals improve to an impressive 9-1 overall and 9-0 in the GLIAC.

  • Football Faces Northwood For Final Home Game

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – After claiming a 33-21 victory at home over the weekend (Oct. 26), the Northern Michigan University football team continues play at the Superior Dome as Northwood University visits for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 2). The game marks the final home contest for the 2013 football ‘Cats. The Wildcats will recognize their seniors in a pre-game presentation as well as with a luncheon on Friday (Nov. 1). Friday’s luncheon will be held at 11:45 a.m. in the University Center. The event is open to the public and the charge to attend is $10.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team scored 34 points behind the strong play of freshman quarterback Shaye Brown in their third win of the year on Saturday (November 2). The Wildcats improve to 3-5 on the season and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the 34-15 win while the Northwood Timberwolves fall to 2-7 overall, 1-6 in the GLIAC. The game marked the final home game of the 2013 Wildcat Football season.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Football Wildcats are back on track as they picked up a 33-21 victory over the Wayne State University Warriors on Saturday (Oct. 26). The Wildcats improve to 2-5 on the year and 2-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play while the Wayne State Warriors drop to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. As part of the game-day festivities, Northern will be celebrating Family Weekend and Band Day. Events around the game include performances by 13 high school bands, along with bounce houses and cookie decorating for young Wildcat fans.

    ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team fell 48-17 to Grand Valley State on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Lubbers Stadium. Officials paused the game with 12:55 remaining in the fourth quarter due to lightning in the area and then cancelled it shortly after. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference granted the Lakers the victory due to the score and time remaining.

The Wildcats scored the game’s first 10 points before the Eagles scored the next 38 and gained control of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Jack Miller Stadium.
