MARQUETTE, Mich. – Down by two points at the half (29-27) the Northern Michigan University men's basketball team dropped its 2007-08 regular season finale to the Lake Superior State University Lakers on Saturday by a score of 68-60.
NMU finishes the season at 7-20 overall and 6-12 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers who still have one game left at Michigan Tech on Monday improves to 10-15 and 7-10 respectively.
Senior, Jake Suardini who played his final game in an NMU uniform led the 'Cats with 21 points and six rebounds. Tyler Kazmierkoski added 11 points. Other seniors playing their final game today were Darren Jones as he ended the day with 10 points and six rebounds; Mike Polfus had six points; and Ryan Reichel ended the game with six points, four rebounds and four assists.
Mark Morse from LSSU led all scorers with 23 points. Ryan Kuhl of the Lakers had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
NMU shot 41.3 percent from the floor for the game (19-48). From the three-point line the 'Cats were 8-21 (38.1 percent). Kazmierkoski led the 'Cats by going 3-6 from beyond the arc. NMU was 14-17 form the free throw line (82.4 percent). Rebounds were almost even, LSSU had a slight edge at 31-28.
