MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan men's basketball team will open the 2012 portion of its schedule this week, hosting rival Michigan Tech in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 5 at the Berry Events Center.

NMU look's to even the season series at one-game a piece following a 77-54 loss to MTU on Dec. 3 in Houghton to open conference play.

The 'Cats come into the matchup at 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in the GLIAC. NMU is fresh off of an 88-64 non-conference win over Finlandia University back on Dec. 29. Sophomore forward Matthew Craggs' double-double guided the way for NMU, netting 17 points and a season high 16 rebounds. Senior center Jared Benson also scored a season best 20 points as the 'Cats shot 55.2 percent from the floor.

The Huskies enter the contest at 6-6 on the season and 4-1 in the GLIAC.  MTU has dropped three of its last four games, including an 87-78 decision to St. Joseph's (Ind.) back on Dec. 30.

MTU is paced by junior forward Ali Haidar. The junior leads the Huskies in scoring with an average of 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and ranks third in the GLIAC in scoring.
