HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team ended the 2012-13 season with a 72-48 loss to Michigan Technological University on Saturday (March 2) afternoon from the Student Development Complex Wood Gym.
Northern finished the season with a 5-21 overall record and a 4-18 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. MTU enters post-season play 19-7 overall and 16-6 conference record.
The Huskies led the game from start to finish, taking a 5-0 lead before Northern was able to get on the board. A layup by junior forward Matthew Craggs opened the scoring for NMU. MTU led by as many as 10 in the opening half, with the 36-28 advantage at the break.
MTU continued to control play in the second half. The Wildcats were only able to get within 10 points of the Huskies, before MTU went up by 29 with four minutes remaining.
Senior forward TJ Cameron led the scoring for Northern with 15 points on three three-pointers, two shots in the paint and was 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Craggs finished with 12 points and led with seven rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 17-for-39 (43.9 percent) from the floor and were 10-for-16 (62.5 percent) from the free throw line. MTU's Ali Haidar led all scorers with a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Armga also entered double figures with 15 and Kyle Stankowski added five rebounds.
The Huskies shot 29-for-45 (64.4 percent) on the afternoon and were 6-for-12 (50 percent) at the free throw line. MTU finished the game with 27 team rebounds.
Senior forwards Joe Simon and TJ Cameron played their final game in Green and Gold on Saturday.
