MARQUETTE, Mich. – Senior Isaiah Johnson (Whitefish Bay, Mich.) has been named to the Bevo Francis Award Watch List which was released by Small College Basketball and is one of two players from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to be named to the list.
Johnson is leading the league with 21.2 points per game this season. His average places him 26th in Division II while he is 24th total points. From the field, the senior is shooting 53.4% and 46.8% from the three-point line. He is also second on the team with 4.9 rebounds and just shy of two assists per game.
The Bevo Francis Award is given each year to the player who has the best overall season within small college basketball. Criteria includes individual statistics, team success, awards, and personal character. Johnson is one of 100 players on the watch list that includes the top players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I & II, USCAA, and the NCCAA.
The first cut of players will happen on February 15 and takes the list down to 50 players. One month later, that list will be trimmed in half again to 25 and on April 6, finalists will be announced. The winner will be named on April 8.
