MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Men's Golf finished sixth in their first meet of the spring season, competing in the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff in Tampa, Florida.
NMU placed two in the top 20 finishers, led by senior Austin Elsner (New London, Wis.), how improved each day. He shot a 79 on the first day, then improved on day two with a round of 75 and finished the event with a 74 on day three to post a final score of 228 for 14th.
Junior Chris Black (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) a 77 opening round followed by rounds of 75 and 80 to finish 17th with a final score of 232.
Senior Logan Haight (Ostego, Mich.) took 24th with a final score of 241, notching rounds of 83, 79 and 79. Owen Bayer finished 28th with scores of 84, 82, and 79 for final tally of 248. Redshirt freshman Carter Mason (Negaunee, Mich.) and junior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.) tied for 29th place overall with a toal of 254. Mason started the event with a 92 and improved with an 84 then 78 while Fontinha went 86, 85 and 83.
The Wildcats will now head to the Saginaw Valley State Invitational in Georgetown, Kentucky to play at the Cherry Blossum Golf Course.
