GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Northern Michigan University Men's Golf team tied a school record with a final score of 586 in the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invitational. The team 291 second round tied for the second best round in program history as well.
The Wildcats were led by junior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.), who posted back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish tied for 12th with a final score of 142. Senior Austin Elsner (New London, Wis.) shot a 73 and 72 to finish at 145 to tie at 23rd place.
Tied for 51st place, senior Logan Haight (Ostego, Mich.) notched a final score of 149 following a first round 77 and second round 72. Senior Owen Beyer (DeWitt, Mich.) finished tied for 74th, shooting a 74 first round and following with a 78 second round for a 152 final score.
Rounding out the men's team was junior Chris Black (Lisburn, Northern Ireland). Black tallied a final score of 155 to finish tied for 92nd with rounds of 79 and 76.
The Wildcats finished 10th out of the 21-team field and were third among Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams. NMU returns to Kentucky to play in the GLIAC South Invitational on Sunday, March 24 and Monday, March 25.
