  • Wildcats Participate in NHL Development Camps

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Five Northern Michigan University hockey players recently participated in development camps with National Hockey League teams. Forward Cohen Adair (Chicago Blackhawks), defenseman Jake Baker (Edmonton Oilers), defenseman Luke Eibler (Winnipeg Jets), forward Reed Seckel (San Jose Sharks) and forward Dominik Shine (Detroit Red Wings) were invited to participate.
  • Gustafsson and Sweden Win Hockey World Championship

    STOCKHOLM – Former Northern Michigan University hockey player Erik Gustafsson won the 2013 IIHF World Championship as a member of team Sweden on Sunday (May 19). Gustafsson scored the first goal for his team as Sweden defeated Switzerland 5-1 for the first title since 1986.
  • NMU Releases 2013-14 Hockey Schedule

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team announces its 2013-14 schedule for the 39th season of Wildcat hockey. NMU returns to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association where it played 13 seasons from 1984-97. Thirty-six games are scheduled for 2013-14, including a pair of exhibition games.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team wrapped up the 38th season of Wildcat hockey in 2012-13. The season marked the end of an era as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association played its final season after 42 years. NMU will rejoin the Western Collegiate Hockey Association next season after being a member of the conference from 1984-97.

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Seven teams are represented on the 2013 CCHA All-Conference teams, highlighted by Miami’s pair of First-Team selections and Western Michigan’s three overall honorees. Miami is the only school with two First-Team selections, with sophomore forward Austin Czarnik and freshman forward Riley Barber debuting on the CCHA All-Conference team.

  • Coreau Named NMU’s January Scholar Athlete of the Month

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Junior goaltender Jared Coreau, of the Northern Michigan University hockey team, has been named NMU's Student-Athlete Scholar of the Month for January by the Athletic Council. Coreau, a native of Perth, Ontario, is majoring in accounting/corporate finance and holds a 3.63 grade point average. He was nominated by Larry G. Pagel Ph.D. a professor in the college of business.
  • Season Ends For Wildcats In CCHA First Round

    ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 10-seeded Northern Michigan University hockey team had its 2012-13 season come to an end on Saturday (March 9) night with at 6-2 loss to the seventh-seeded University of Michigan in the first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The Wildcats finished with an overall record of 15-19-4.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team opens postseason play this weekend (March 8-10) with a best-of-three Central Collegiate Hockey Association First Round series at the University of Michigan. The Wildcats are the No. 10 seed and the Wolverines are the seven seed. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) from Yost Ice Arena.
  • Coreau Named CCHA Warrior Goaltender of Week

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Junior goaltender Jared Coreau has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Warrior Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season. Coreau, a native of Perth, Ont., stopped 84 shots in the series split with Lake Superior State over the weekend. He was one short of a career-high with 50 saves on Friday. Coreau stopped 34 more shots on Saturday.
  • Northern Falls to LSSU In Regular Season Finale

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – In the regular season finale, the Northern Michigan University hockey team was shutout for the fourth time this season with a 3-0 loss to Lake Superior State. The Lakers scored three shorthanded goals and defeated the Wildcats for the third time this season. LSSU also won the Cappo Cup by outscoring Northern 10-4 in the four games.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team defeated U.P-rival Lake Superior State 3-1 on Friday (March 1) night in the opening game of the final Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season series from the Berry Events Center. The Wildcats scored a goal in the first period and added two more in the third and junior goaltender Jared Coreau had a season-high 50 saves.
  • Wildcats Wrap Up Regular Season at Home

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend against Lake Superior State. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (March 1-2) nights from the Berry Events Center. The five seniors will be honored at the Blue Line Club Luncheon on Friday at noon in the Wildcat Room and before Saturday’s game. The annual Silent Auction is being held on Friday night and there will also be a 4th Period Party at Buffalo Wild Wings after Saturday’s game.
  • Falcons Defeat Wildcats for Series Split

    BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team fell 5-3 to Bowling Green State on Saturday (Feb. 23) evening for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series split with the Falcons. The home team scored two goals with less than five minutes left in the third after the Wildcats tied it at three. With the loss, NMU falls to 14-16-4 overall and 8-14-4-1 in the CCHA. The ‘Cats finished 5-13-1 overall on the road and 2-11-1 in conference action.
  • Wildcats Take Game One From Falcons

    BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team picked up a much-needed three points in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green State on Friday (Feb. 22) evening at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Wildcats scored the first four goals, had four players with multiple points and junior goaltender Jared Coreau stopped 37 shots. With the win, NMU moves to 14-15-4 overall and 8-13-4-1 in the CCHA. BGSU is 12-16-5 overall and 9-13-3-1 in conference action. The Falcons hold a two-point advantage over the ‘Cats in the standings.
  • Hockey Wraps Up Road Schedule at Bowling Green

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team plays its final Central Collegiate Hockey Association road series this weekend (Feb. 22-23) at Bowling Green State. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights from the BGSU Ice Arena. NMU is 13-15-4 overall and 7-13-4-1 in the CCHA. The Wildcats sit in ninth place in the CCHA with 26 points. The ‘Cats are coming off a loss at Michigan Tech and a CCHA series split at Michigan State last week. The two teams below NMU in the conference standings are Michigan and Michigan State.
  • Hockey Falls at Michigan State for CCHA Series Split

    EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team fell 4-2 to Michigan State on Saturday (Feb. 16) night from Munn Ice Arena. The Spartans earned the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series split by scoring three straight goals in the third period after trailing 2-1. With the loss, NMU falls to 13-15-4 overall and 7-13-4-1 in the CCHA. MSU is now 9-20-3 overall and 7-16-1 in conference play.
  • Wildcats Hold Off Spartans on Friday

    EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team got back in the win column on Friday (Feb. 15) night with a 5-3 victory over Michigan State from Munn Ice Arena. The Wildcats scored two goals in the first period, one in the second and added two more in the third period. Senior forward Matt Thurber and sophomore forward Reed Seckel each had two goals and two assists. Junior forward Erik Higby also had a multiple point night with a goal and an assist.

The puck drops at 6:35 p.m. on Friday and 7:35 p.m. Saturday from Munn Ice Arena. Saturday is Hockey Day in Michigan.

    HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team fell 8-2 to Michigan Tech in its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday (Feb. 12) night from the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Wildcats surrendered four goals in each of the first two periods and managed a goal in the second and in the final minute of play.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team plays three games this week, beginning on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at Michigan Tech. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. from the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in the final non-conference game of the season. NMU is 12-13-4 overall and 6-12-4-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Wildcats currently sit in 10th place in the CCHA with 23 points. The ‘Cats are coming off a series split with Ferris State and travel to East Lansing for the only meeting with Michigan State over the weekend.
