NMU Hockey Completes Sweep At Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Northern Michigan hockey team picked up a 3-1 victory Saturday at the Sanford Center completing its Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep of Bemidji State.

The win moves the Wildcats to 8-10-2 on the season with a 6-5-1 league record. Bemidji State falls to 5-11-6 overall with a 5-7-4 record in league play. 

The Wildcats got on the board in the first when sophomore forward Cohen Adair scored at the 15:42 mark on a feed from freshman forward Sami Salminen and junior defender Luke Eibler.

Bemidji evened the score just over a minute later (16:51) when Jeff Jubinville scored. 

Senior forward Stephan Vigier put NMU back in the lead 2-1 when he scored at the 13:51 mark of the second period. Junior forward Reed Seckel and senior defender Wade Epp each recorded an assist on Vigier's goal.

NMU added an insurance goal at 3:30 in the third period when junior defender Jake Baker scored on a feed from Salminen and junior forward Ryan Kesti

NMU was outshot in the contest 33-24 by Bemidji State as Epp led the Wildcats with four shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Mathias Dahlstrom made 32 saves in goal for the Wildcats to improve to 7-8-2 on the season. Andrew Walsh made 21 saves in net for the Beavers falling to 5-9-3 with the loss.

Northern Michigan returns to the Berry Events Center for its next WCHA series facing Alaska Fairbanks at 7:07 p.m. Jan. 17.
