HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Northern Michigan University Hockey defeated University of Alabama-Huntsville Saturday 6-3 in the second game of the series.
| HAVE TO SHOOT TO SCORE
Both teams were off to a quick start. Both teams were able to score within the first seven minutes of the game. NMU was able to outshoot the chargers throughout the game with 71 shots, 40 on goal while the Chargers only got 43 shots , 27 on goal.
| TAKING THE PENALTY ADVANTAGE
Two minutes after the first Charger goal, freshman forward Vincent De Mey (Los Angeles,Cal.) scored his second goal of the season on an NMU power-play. He was assisted by junior defenseman Phillip Beaulieu (Duluth, Minn.) to give the Wildcats their 23rd power-play goal of the year.
| IN THE LEAD
Only four minutes into the second period freshman forward Griffin Loughran (West Seneca, N.Y.) gave NMU the lead with his fourth goal of the season. His goal was assisted by sophomore forward Joseph Nardi (Edmonton, Alta.) and senior defenseman Ryan Black (Stillwater, Minn.).
| ONE LESS SKATER AND ONE MORE POINT
At 16:35 in the second period and on the penalty kill, senior forward Tony Bretzman (Mendota Heights,Minn.) turned the Wildcat disadvantage into a goal. Bretzman's fourth goal of the season also gave NMU their fourth shorthanded goal this year. Assisting Bretzman were freshman forward Ty Readman (Edmonton, Alta.) and Nardi for his second assist of the night.
| FRESHMAN SECURES THE WIN
With one minute left in the second period, freshman forward Jarrett Lee (Hibbing, Minn.) scored the game winning goal assisted by sophomore forward Caleb Schroer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.). This was Lee's second goal of the season as Schroer picks up his seventh assist to move into a tie for third on the team.
| PIERCE'S STRONG FINISH
Senior forward Denver Pierce (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) had a strong finish for the Wildcats with two goals in the last ten minutes of the game. The first was scored on a Wildcat power play. This goal was assisted by NMU assist leaders Beaulieu and senior forward Adam Rockwood (Coquitlam, B.C.).
With 24 seconds to spare in the game Pierce found the back of an empty net to finalize the score at 6-3. This was Pierce's eighth goal of the season and the eighth empty net goal for the Wildcats this year.
| MOVING UP THE RECORD LIST
Senior goaltender Atte Tolvanen (Vihti, Finland) finished with 24 saves and now has 3,236 saves in his career to move him into fourth place in the NMU record book.
Tolvanen will continue to make his climb up the record book for the remainder of the season as he looks to break the career number of shutouts (13), career goaltender games played (133), career goal against average (2.24), and save percentage marks (.924).

The Wildcats improve to 15-13-1 on the season and are 14-7-1-0 in the WCHA. NMU will take on Bemidji State University on the road next weekend for their third to last regular season series.
