BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University Men's Hockey team took on Bemidji State University Saturday night for the second game of their series with the Beavers but fell 3-0.
| THE FIRST PERIOD
The Beavers managed to score a goal 10:21 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats finished the first period with eight shots and won 10 faceoffs.
| THE SECOND PERIOD
In the second period, the Wildcats won the faceoff battle 11-7 but neither team was able to get a puck into the net and the score stayed 1-0 with BSU leading. NMU won the faceoff battle, winning 11 to BSU's 10.
| FINISHING THE GAME
The Beavers added another goal 6:03 into the third period to move ahead 2-0. The Wildcats attempted to come back, pulling the goalie with 4:07 to go in the game. Unfortunately, BSU was able to add an empty net goal with 1:38 left to play and captured the 3-0 victory.
Junior Philip Beaulieu (Duluth, Minn.) finished the game tied with junior Darien Craighead (Surrey, B.C.) for the team's lead with four shots. Sophomore Joseph Nardi (Edmonton, Alta.) won 14 faceoffs while senior Adam Rockwood (Coquitlam, B.C.) won 12. As a team, NMU won 34 faceoffs to BSU's 31.
| ATTE'S RECORD WATCH
Senior goaltender Atte Tolvanen (Vihti, Finland) finished with 29 saves and now has 3,297 saves in his career to stay in fourth place in the NMU record book. He is now just 65 saves shy of reaching third place.
Tolvanen will continue to make his climb up the record book for the remainder of the season as he looks to break the career number of shutouts (13), career goaltender games played (133), career goal against average (2.24), and save percentage marks (.924).

Northern Michigan, is now 15-14-2 on the season and is 14-8-2 in the WCHA while Bemidji State improves to 15-12-5 overall and 13-8-3-2 in the league. NMU and BSU are now tied for fourth place in the WCHA standings. The Wildcats will look to bounce back next weekend as they host local rival Lake Superior State University Friday and Saturday night.
