The Wildcats began the week with their second road victory of the season when they defeated Ashland University, 1-0. Sophomore forward Ben Hoffman (Petoskey, Michigan) netted the lone goal of the match in the 28th minute. Junior midfielder Callum Olpin (Norwich, England) sent a deep ball up to sophomore midfielder Luca Lippert (Langen, Germany) who crossed it in to Hoffman for the score.

On Sunday, the Wildcats fought off a high-powered Saginaw Valley State University offense for the team's second scoreless draw of the season. The NMU defense fended off 27 total shots, 11 on-goal to play to their second draw in the past three matches.

NMU competed in eight matches during the month of October, finishing undefeated in those eight matches with a 6-0-2 record. The undefeated streak is the longest in program history after beginning play during the 2016 campaign. The last loss for the Wildcats was the season opener on August 30.

Over the last five matches, the Wildcats have not surrendered a goal to their opponents. NMU has not allowed a goal to their opponents since September 14 against Davenport University, a span of 512:41. The team already has six shutouts in 2018, which matches the combined amount from the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.

Freshman goalkeeper Valentin Kliebe (Hessisch Lichtenau, Germany) has earned the start between the posts in the last six matches for the Wildcats. He is responsible for 448:27 of the team's current shutout streak of 512:41. With two more shutouts over the weekend, Kliebe was the second Wildcats to be named GLIAC Player of the Week in 2018 earning the defensive honor.

For the season, Kliebe has three solo clean sheets and two combined shutouts with fellow freshman goalkeeper Patrick Restum (Okemos, Michigan). His 0.17 goals against average and .971 save percentage both lead the country and have resulted in a 4-0-2 record for Kliebe.

The first seniors in program history will graduate in 2018-19 after joining the inaugural team three years ago. Senior midfielder Carson Burmeister (Grayling, Michigan), senior forward Nic Harenda (Waukesha, Wisconsin), senior defenseman Kevin Hoof (Grove, Minnesota), and senior forward Sam Popp (Northville, Michigan) will be honored October 14 for Senior Day.

The meeting will be the first of the season between the two programs and the fifth-ever matchup between the two sides.

Less than two weeks after the first-ever matchup between the two programs, the Wildcats and Rangers will meet again this week. On September 23, the two sides played to a scoreless draw in Kenosha, Wisconsin with the NMU defense turning away 22 shots in the match.
