ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Women's Swimming and Diving team for Northern Michigan University won 11 events on their way to defeating St. Cloud State University, Northern State University and Minnesota State-Moorhead in multiple dual meets Saturday.
The Wildcats defeated St. Cloud 155-5-87.50. They also defeated Northern State 193-42 and Minnesota State-Moorhead 184-58.
Sophomore Rachel Helm (Newcastle upon Tyne, England/Burnside College) captured two victories as she won the 200-yard freestyle in one minute, 54.73 seconds, and the 100-yard backstroke in 56.66.
Freshman Gabriella Spajic (New South Wales, Australia/De La Salle Catholic College Cronulla) also won twice. She took the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:35.48 and also captured the 100-yard butterfly in 58.40.
In diving, junior Angela Probstfeld (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) swept both events. One-meter diving saw Probstfeld win with a score of 235.80 and in three-meter diving she scored 248.40.
The 1,650-yard freestyle went to sophomore Nicola Pasquire (Bedford, England/Bedford Modern School) with a time of 18:20.12. Freshman Lena Soulas (London, England/Woodhouse College) took first in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 53.17. Junior Dana Stroven (Howell, Mich./Hartland) rounded out the individual victories by placing first with a time of 1:07.78 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Wildcats also swept the relays. Junior Regan Kilburn (Muscatine, Iowa), Stroven, Spajic and Soulas teamed to win the 400-yard medley relay. Freshman Margaret Vaitkus (Munster, Ind.), sophomore Victoria Reese (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South), sophomore Madelyn Irelan (Owosso, Mich.) and Helm won the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out the meet with a winning time of 3:37.83.
NMU now enjoys two weeks from action before they take on Grand Valley State University on November 4.
