BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Men's Swimming and Diving Team for Northern Michigan University captured five victories on the final day of the Calvin Winter Invitational.
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany), sophomore Maks Kapustin (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley), junior Ryan Knox-Leonard (South Wales, Austraila/Toronto) and sophomore Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos) took first with a time of 3:01.10.
Junior Grantas Dapkus (Kaunas, Lithuania/Kaunas Saule) then set a school record with a 4:29.90 in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Janne Roovers (Khobar, Saudi Arabia/Dhahran) finished second and the pair both qualified for an NCAA B-cut.
Junior Renars Bundzis (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary School) set a school and pool record, plus qualified for an NCAA A-cut by winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:44.41.
Budai finished in 43.75 to also win the 100-yard freestyle. Knox-Leonard set a pool record in the 200-yard individual medley by finishing in 1:48.96. The time also qualified him for an NCAA-B-cut.
The men finished second out of six in the meet and posted 1994 points throughout the three days.
