Nathan Rotundo Receives 2018-19 GLIAC Pat Riepma Post Graduate Scholarship

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Graduating senior Nathan Rotundo (Marquette, Mich.) has been awarded the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pat Riepma Post Graduate Scholarship. Rotundo will receive a $5,000 academic scholarship from the league to help support his graduate studies.

The senior placed eighth in the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the 2019 GLIAC Championships. It was the first time he competed in the diving events for NMU after routinely competing in the breaststroke throughout his career. He is also a GLIAC Academic Excellence Award winner and a three-time Northern Michigan University Men's Swimming and Diving scholar-athlete award winner. This spring he was named to the NMU Elite 20 academic list.

In addition to diving, he volunteered during several campus and community events, including the Marquette Marathon, St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry and Bay Cliff Science Camp.

Rotundo plans to pursue a medical degree at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

"From a very young age I have always wanted to enter the medical field, so that I might be able to make a difference in people's lives," Rotundo said. "I chose Michigan State because in their mission statement they place a strong emphasis on their desire to serve the underserved and underprivileged."

Rotundo hopes to become an anesthesiologist, which combines his interests in biology and chemistry, and practice in the Upper Peninsula.
