BAY CITY, Mich. – Senior Rachel Helm (Newcastle, England) has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swim & Dive Athlete of the Week. Helm won all eight races she competed in this past weekend against the University of Findlay on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the senior was a member of the 125-yard medley relay and 125-yard freestyle relay. She then also captured two individual races, winning the 25-yard backstroke and the 75-yard backstroke.
She followed with four more wins Saturday, starting with the 200-yard medley relay, helping the team to a time of 1:47.60. She also aided the 200-yard freestyle relay to a time of 1:39.62 for victory. Individual, Helm touched the wall in 56:41 to win the 100-yard backstroke and also took first in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:02.50. Both of her individual times gave her an NCAA B Cut qualifying time.
This is Helm's first GLIAC Swim & Dive Athlete of the Week award this season and the sixth of her career.
The Wildcats defeated Findlay in both meets and will now head to Fargo, North Dakota to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead and Northern State University this weekend.
