Sheboygan, Wisc. -- The Women's Golf team for Northern Michigan University defeated nine other teams to take first place at the Kohler Collegiate Classic, played at the Whistling Straits Golf Course, and featured every golfer finishing in the top 25.
Sophomore Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) posted a score of 160 to finish third individual. Senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) finished with a score of 166 to tie for eighth place.
Junior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs) aided the Wildcats with a score of 170 and finished tied for 11th while senior Avery Rochester (Marquette, Mich./Marquette/Columbia College) tied for 13th, notching a score of 171.
Junior Alyce Krumm (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) rounded out the NMU squad, taking 24th place with a score of 183.
As a team, the Wildcats posted a total score of 667 which was eight strokes better than their closest competitor, Taylor University. NMU shot 328 on Monday and 339 on Tuesday.
The team now enters a break during the next months as they won't return to the links until March 8 to take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference versus Great Midwest Athletic Conference Classic.
