Women's Golf Takes Second at GLIAC Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio – The Women's Golf team for Northern Michigan University placed three in the top five and the Wildcats captured second place at this year's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships played at the Virtues Golf Club.

Junior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs) finished the event in second place, totaling 226. Her first round ended with a 78 which she followed with a 73 on the second day. She finished her weekend with a 75 on the third day.

Sophomore Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) took fourth place, shooting an opening round of 78 and went for back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish with a score of 228.

In fifth place, senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) posted a score of 229.  After the first two rounds, she was leading the field with rounds of 74 and 73.  She finished the weekend with an 82 on third day.

Senior Avery Rochester (Marquette, Mich.) ended in 16th place, shooting rounds of 79, 79 and 78 to finish the weekend with a score of 236.

Junior Alyce Krumm (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) placed 44th.  Finishing with a score of 256, she posted rounds of 85, 83 and 88. 

NMU finished just six strokes back of leader Grand Valley State University and was 20 strokes better than third place. 

The Wildcats return to action on Monday, May 07 to take part in the NCAA II Super Regional at the Katke Golf Club in Big Rapids, Michigan.
