Women's Golf In Third After First Day of NCAA Regional

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – After the first day of the NCAA East Super Regional, the Northern Michigan University Women's Golf team is in third place among the 12-team field.

The Wildcats have posted a score of 301 through the first 18 holes and are four strokes ahead of fourth place.

Junior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary School) paces the team and is in third place individually with a one under par score of 71 through the first round.  Junior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F.Riggs) and senior Avery Rochester (Marquette, Mich.) are tied for 13th with rounds of 75 each. 

Sophomore Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) is 39th with a score of 80 while junior Alyce Krumm (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) rounds out the NMU team with a first round of 86.

The Wildcats will return for Day Two Tuesday, with the second round starting at 8:30 a.m.  The top three teams of the 12-team field will advance to the NCAA Championships.
