BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Northern Michigan University's Women's Golf team competed in the NCAA II East Super Regional and finished in seventh place to improve on last season's result.
Junior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary School) led the Wildcats with a final score of 227 to finish 12th overall. She opened the week with a one under par 71 then followed it with a 79 on the second round and finished the week by shooting a 77 on the final day.
Sophomore Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) tied for 27th and posted a final tally of 236 by shooting an 80 in her first and third rounds. She posted a score of 76 on day two.
One stroke behind Els and finishing in a tie for 31st was junior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F.Riggs). Guthrie posted rounds of 75 on day one, 82 on the second day and notched a score of 80 to finish at 237.
Senior Avery Rochester (Marquette, Mich.) started the week by posted a first round of 75, then followed it with an 85 and 88 to finish the week at 248 and placed 54th
Junior Alyce Krumm (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) rounded out the NMU squad by shooting an 86, 95 and 87 to finish at 268 for the week.
The Wildcats finished the 2017-18 season by returning to the NCAA Super Regional for the second straight year. Guthrie also gave the program their first-ever first team selection as she was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-GLIAC First Team. Els, Hewer and Rochester were each named All-GLIAC Second Team.
