Hewer Gets Hole-in-One as Wildcats Win SVSU Invitational

BAY CITY, Mich. – Senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) hit a hole-in-one on the 13th hole as Northern Michigan University Women's Golf won the Saginaw Valley State University Invitational.

Senior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs) finished second overall with a score of 147.  During Saturday's first round she shot a 71, then followed it with a 76 on the second day.

Hewer posted a round of 76 to start the invitational and then posted a 75 for her second round, finishing with a final score of 151 and sixth place.

Junior Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) finished in a tie for eighth place with a score of 154, tallying rounds of 79 and 75.

With a score of 156, freshman Abigail Boozer (Brea, Calif.) finished tied for 11th and shot 78 in both rounds.

Senior Baylee Dunmire (Palmdale, Calif./Highland) took 34th place and had a final score of 165.  She played rounds of 81 and 84 on the weekend.

The Wildcats defeated six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and finished 28 strokes better than second place. 

NMU will now enjoy nearly two weeks away before they return to action Saturday, September 29 to play in the Grand Valley State University Invitational.
