MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team takes its first Ohio road trip of the season this weekend. The Wildcats face Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 4) and Findlay on Sunday (Oct. 6) in a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests.
NMU is 1-5-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the GLIAC after a win and tie last week. Last Sunday (Sept. 22), the Wildcats won its first game of the season with a 3-0 victory over Lake Erie. On Saturday (Sept. 28), NMU tied 1-1 against conference and U.P.-rival Michigan Tech. On the season, freshman Paula Hafner has three goals with sophomore Ashley Katers, senior KC McCary and freshman Carmen Villarruel tallying one a piece.
Tiffin enters the week at 1-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the GLIAC. The Dragons defeated Ohio Dominican 1-0 on Friday (Sept. 27) and tied (1-1) with Ashland on Sunday (Sept. 29). Giulianne Domingues has two of Tiffin's goals for the season and Olivia Haskin has one.
The Dragons lead the series against NMU, 1-7-1, including the 3-2 win last season in Marquette. The lone Wildcat win was at Tiffin on Oct. 9, 2011.
Findlay is 4-2-1 and 1-1-1 in the conference after a loss and tie on the road over the weekend. The Oilers lost to Ashland, 5-2 on Friday and tied (1-1) with Ohio Dominican on Sunday. Katie Burke and Eryn Weber lead Findlay in goals with five each in the first seven games.
NMU holds the close advantage 10-9-1 over the Oilers, but Findlay is 6-3 with games played in Ohio. The Wildcats won the matchup 3-0 last season from Marquette. Junior Taylor Smith tallied two goals for the Green and Gold in the game.
