Northern Michigan Women's Soccer Signs Two

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan head women's soccer coach Matt Granstrand announced the signing of Ashleigh Hansen and Sarah Tuggle to National Letters of Intent Wednesday.

Hansen and Tuggle wrap up their high school careers this spring and will join the Wildcats in the fall of 2016.

"Returning 27 talented and experienced players allowed us to be really patient and exacting in our recruiting process," Granstrand said. "Ashleigh and Sarah are terrific players and, more importantly, quality student-athletes and the kind of people you want as your teammate. They will fit in well with the goals and expectations we have for the upcoming year as well as for the future of our program."

Hansen led Grayslake North High School to a 17-3-2 record and a regional championship last season, earning Fox Valley all-conference accolades in the process. A 5 foot-6 defensive midfielder and center back, she served as captain of her club team, the Chicago Kickers. Hansen also earned all-academic honors all four years of high school and ran on the cross country team.

Tuggle helped her club team, TNT Dynamite/Lansing Rush, place second in the Michigan State Cup race twice. The 5-foot-7 center midfielder played high school soccer for Williamston, captaining the team and earning all-region and honorable mention all-state accolades. She is also a National Honor Society member and a Business Professional of America national qualifier. Tuggle's sister, Lindsey, is a rising junior defender on the team who appeared in all 35 of Northern Michigan's games since she joined the program in 2014.
