MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer will begin the 2018 season with two home contests against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Wildcats host the Huskies on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs on Sunday at noon with both matches taking place at the NMU soccer fields.

The Wildcats advanced to the conference tournament for the for the fifth-consecutive season and 10th time in 11 years after earning the seven seed a season ago. One of the highlights of the season included double-overtime goal in the 103rd-minute of action at Michigan Tech University by sophomore forward Jenna Halonen (Howell, Michigan) to seal a victory in the season finale. A week prior, the Wildcats defeated Ferris State University to clinch their berth in the conference tournament.
|TOP OFFENSIVE RETURNERS|
Sophomore forward Jenna Halonen (Howell, Michigan) exploded out of the gate as a freshman with 18 points on four goals and a pair of assists in 2017. Four other returning Wildcats scored at least one point a season ago including captain senior forward Aimee Colla (Muskego, Wisconsin) who netted a pair of goals.
|EXPERIENCED DEFENSIVE CORE.|
Sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wisconsin) will anchor the defense between the posts after appearing in every contest last season and earning four solo shutouts. Senior captain and defender Sophia Sachs (Green Bay, Wisconsin) has played every game in her three seasons and will look to lead the back line.
|FRESHMAN CLASS AND DEPTH|
With 31 total student-athletes on the roster, 14 will be newcomers for the 2018 campaign. The Wildcats' roster includes 12 freshman and a pair of transfers that will play their final two seasons in the green and gold.
|BASMA IN HER SECOND SEASON.|
Head coach Sonia Basma will begin her second season at the helm of the Wildcats in 2018. She owns a 4-11-2 record after her first season and a 2-5-2 mark in GLIAC competition.
|NMU VERSUS ST. CLOUD STATE.|
SCSU owns the all-time record over NMU with a 5-3-0 edge in eight games. A season ago, the Wildcats dropped the matchup on the road, 3-0. The Huskies went on to record an 8-8-2 record in 2017.
|NMU VERSUS MINNEOSTA DULUTH.|
It will be the 21st matchup in the history of the two programs, while Duluth owns a 14-3-3 advantage in the all-time series. Last season, NMU dropped their home opener to UMD, 2-0, with the Bulldogs going on to have a 10-5-4 record.
