MARQUETTE, Mich.--The Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field team will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Big Meet on Friday and Saturday.
In last week's competition at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, NMU took five individual victories and one relay victory to leave the Pointer Invite as the highest scoring team with 143 points.
The individual first-place finishes were highlighted by a pair of freshman with Nina Augsten (Koenigsbronn, Germany) finishing the 60-meter hurdles in nine seconds and Elise Longley (Bloomington, Minnesota) winning the mile with a time of 5:26.36.
Junior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) had the final individual victory for the Wildcats, getting the win in the high jump. Juergen earned the win by clearing five feet, 5.25 inches.
Sophomore Sydney McPeters (Suglarland, Texas), junior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Michigan), sophomore Holly Blowers (Marquette, Michigan), and Huebner conquered the 4x400-meter relay winning with a time of 3:59.91.
Senior Kameron Burmeister (Menominee, Michigan) had a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meters over the weekend, but her time of 9:53.86 is the 14th-fastest in the country and an NCAA II provisional. Burmeister also has a provisional time in the 5,000-meters with a time 17:18.55, 20th-quickest in the country.
The GVSU Big Meet is set to take place on Friday and Saturday. NMU has athletes competing on both days beginning with the running events at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Competition on Saturday begins at 9:00 a.m. for the field events and 10:00 a.m. for the running events. The meet will take place at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Michigan.
