HILLSDALE, Mich.—A pair of Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field student-athletes traveled to Hillsdale College to compete in the "Gina" Relays Friday and Saturday afternoon. Junior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) picked up an NCAA II provisional, while senior Kieren Becker (Fowler, Michigan) ran in two events.
Running in the 800-meters, Huebner finished fifth with the fastest time of her career. She earned an NCAA II provisional time, finishing in two minutes, 12.44 seconds. Her mark currently ranks 30th in the NCAA II. Becker also ran in the event finishing 16th with a time of 2:17.54.
Becker also competed in the 1,500-meter run on Friday, finishing 11th. Her time of 4:35.35 was the second-fastest non-NCAA I time in the event and is her second-fastest time of the season. Becker's fastest time this year is 4:32.05 which earned an NCAA II provisional and is currently ranked 32nd in the country.
The Wildcats will travel to Ashland University this week for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships set to begin Wednesday and conclude on Friday. NMU will also compete at the Hillsdale "Last Chance" Meet May 10-12 in an attempt to improve their national standing for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships.
