INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Northern Michigan University Track & Field team will send three individuals to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Sophomore Izabelle Peterson (Marquette, Mich.) has qualified for the 100-Meter Dash and 200-Meter Dash. The sophomore posted a season-best 100-Meter time of 11.76 and a time of 24.13 to break NMU school records and helped her to victories at the Al Owens Classic. Peterson won the 200 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and earned First Team All-GLIAC honors and took second in the 100 for Second Team All-GLIAC. This will be her first appearance in the National Championships.
Senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) is making her second National Championship meet of the year. Huebner will run in the 800-Meter Run after earning a sixth-place finish and All-American honors in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The senior has an outdoor season best of 2:08.97 to finish second at the GLIAC Championships and break a school record on her way to earning Second Team All-GLIAC.
Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) will appear in the High Jump again after participating in the same event at the indoor championships, where she was a Second Team All-American with a 10th place finish. For the second time this season, she was named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Meet at the GLIAC Championships and enters with a season best height of 5'7.75 that she cleared at the 2019 Golden Grizzlies Invitational.
The Outdoor National Championships will take place in Kingsville, Texas and are hosted by Texas A&M University, Kingsville in Javelina Stadium. The meet starts Thursday, May 23, with Peterson running in the 100 preliminary race. Juergen will compete in the High Jump finals Friday afternoon with Huebner running in the 800 and Peterson in the 200 prelims that night. The finals for the 100, 200 and 800 will be conducted Saturday night.
