    MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University athletic department inducted five members into its Sports Hall of Fame and honored its current student-athletes at the Sports Hall of Fame and Student-Athletes Awards Banquet Saturday in the Great Lakes Room of the University Center.

  • GLIAC Announces Fall All-Academic Teams

    BAY CITY, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the 2014 Fall All-Academic & All-Academic Excellence Teams. A total of 1,129 student-athletes achieved all-academic recognition with 589 on the All-Academic team and 540 on the All-Excellence list. Northern Michigan had a total of 49 student-athletes earn All-Academic recognition with 27 of those student-athletes earning All-Academic Excellence.
  • NMU Volleyball to Host Open Tryouts

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team will have an open tryout for the remaining roster positions for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The tryout will be held in Vandament Arena from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Despite having an extremely young roster, the Northern Michigan University volleyball finished the season 14-14 overall with a 14-4 mark in conference play finishing fourth place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Wildcats were able to host a GLIAC Tournament game for the second season in a row.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – NMU volleyball announced the signing of three new student-athletes for the 2015 season. The Wildcats were able to bring in outside hitters Maggie Liebeck (Luxemburg, Wis.) and Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) along with setter Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn.).
  • Three NMU Volleyball Players Earn All-GLIAC Nod

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University volleyball was able to have three members earn all-conference accolades for the season. Junior libero Alex Berger was named First Team All-GLIAC, while junior outside hitter Lisa Studnicka earned Second Team All-GLIAC accolades and freshman middle hitter Madison Whitehead was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – NMU Volleyball was swept in straight sets by the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in the GLIAC Quarterfinals with final scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 27-25. The Wildcats finish the year 14-14 overall with a 14-4 record during GLIAC play.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University volleyball was able to earn a berth into the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after finishing the season 14-13 overall with a 14-4 record in conference. The Wildcats clinched the No. 4 seed giving them the opportunity to host a quarterfinals match for the second straight year. NMU will take on the No. 5 seed Saginaw Valley in Vandament Arena Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
  • NMU Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season Defeating Northwood

    MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University volleyball came back after a slow start to defeat the Timberwolves of Northwood 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19). Junior outside hitter Lisa Studnicka recorded a double-double in the match with 18 kills and 17 digs, both game-highs.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University Volleyball (13-13, 13-4 GLIAC) won in commanding fasion over Lake Superior State by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-20. The Wildcats spread the ball around as three different NMU players recorded eight or more kills with no one reaching double digits.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University has a full week of competition at home as the NMU volleyball team wraps up regular season action hosting games at 5 p.m. Friday against Lake Superior State and at 4 p.m. Saturday against Northwood. The No. 20 ranked NMU hockey team hosts No. 18 ranked Ferris State in a two-game series at the Berry Events Center Friday and Saturday while the NMU swimming and diving team faces off against Saginaw Valley State at 11 a.m. at the PEIF Pool. The No. 10 ranked Wildcats cross country team is competing in the GLIAC Championship Saturday in Tiffin, Ohio and the NMU football team is on the road at Ferris State Saturday.

The Wildcats and Cardinals are now tied for the third place in the North Division with only one weekend left to play.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University volleyball (12-12, 12-3 GLIAC) was able to cruise past the Wayne State Warriors in straight sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-23). The Wildcats hit .237 for the match and had five blocks in the victory.
  • NMU Volleyball Sweeps Season Series with Tech

    MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University volleyball used a hitting percentage of .346 in the first set and .483 in the third set to cruise to a three set sweep of Michigan Tech (25-15, 27-25, 25-14). The win improves NMU to 11-12 on the season with an 11-3 record in conference, while also snapping a six game skid.

    BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Northern Michigan University volleyball fell to No. 22 Ferris State in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-14. The Wildcats are now 10-12 overall with a 10-3 record in league action following the loss and have lost back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests for the first time this season.

    ALLENDALE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University volleyball fell in straight sets to #13 Grand Valley State with scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12. The loss drops NMU to 10-11 on the season with a 10-2 mark in conference. Freshman middle hitter Madison Whitehead led the way for the Wildcats with 10 kills and four service aces.

    AURORA, Ill. - Northern Michigan University volleyball dropped a pair of matches to close out the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover. The Wildcats fell to Parkside in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) and Lewis University 3-1 (26-24, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18). The losses put Northern Michigan 10-10 overall on the season.

    AURORA, Ill. - Northern Michigan University volleyball (10-8, 10-1 GLIAC) fell to Rockhurst University (16-2, 9-2 GLVC) 3-1 to open up the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover. Rockhurst came into the crossover ranked second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

    INDIANAPOLIS – The 2014 GLIAC/GLVC Crossover schedule has been announced and Northern Michigan will open the crossover against Rockhurst University Friday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. The Wildcats then will have a double-header Saturday, Oct. 18 playing University of Wisconsin-Parkside for the second time in six days at 11 a.m. and Lewis to close out the crossover at 5 p.m.
  • Berger Records 1,000th Career Dig

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – In the 3-1 victory over Ohio Dominican junior libero Alex Berger recorded her 1,000th dig in her career. Berger became the 13th Wildcat in program history to reach the feat.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University volleyball won the opening two sets against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, but the Rangers were able to come back and defeat the Wildcats in five sets with scores of 15-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22 and 15-13.
  • NMU Volleyball Sweeps Tiffin for Fourth Straight Victory

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University volleyball made quick work of Tiffin University in a 3-0 sweep with scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-23. The Wildcats improved to 10-6 overall with a 10-1 mark in GLIAC play. The offense played strong holding Tiffin to a mere 48% efficiency in side outs. The Wildcats back row played well only allowing one ace and recording a side out 37 out of 61 opportunities for 60% efficiency.
  • NMU Volleyball Holds Off Panthers in 3-1 Victory

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team came out fast winning the first two sets of the night and were able to hold off the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a 3-1 victory with scores of 25-22, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-20. The victory puts NMU at 9-6 overall with a 9-1 mark in GLIAC action.
  • NMU Volleyball Finishes Weekend Sweep with Win at Walsh

    NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Northern Michigan volleyball was able to finish out the weekend with a sweep of Walsh with scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-22. The win puts the Wildcats at 8-6 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC midway through the conference schedule.
  • Wildcat Volleyball Finishes Strong in Sweep of Malone

    CANTON, Ohio - Northern Michigan volleyball was able to finish strong in the opening two sets with victories of 25-23 and 25-22 before cruising to the sweep with a third set win of 25-15. The Wildcats hit .219 for the match with 10 blocks at the net. The back row was also solid for NMU with 47 digs on the night and only four serve reception errors.
  • NMU Volleyball to Host 7th Annual High School Invite

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan Volleyball will host the 7th Annual High School Volleyball Invitational, which will be Saturday, October 4th starting at 9 a.m. This year’s invitational will feature a varsity and junior-varsity tournament with a total of 20 teams competing, and it is expected that around 300 student-athletes will be competing through-out the day.
