BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.), Junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.), and freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianoplis Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) were named to the Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team Saturday as the Northern Michigan University's volleyball team defeated Missouri Western State University fell to Upper Iowa University on the second day of the Ferris State Invitational.
The Wildcats bested Missouri Western 25-13,18-25, 25-16, 27-25 for a 3-1 victory but Upper Iowa overcame NMU 3-0, 25-16, 25-17,25-20.
Chosa led the team with 20 kills and six block assists on the day while Monsma finished with 18 kills, three aces, 22 digs, a block and two block assists. Antunes chipped into the effort with 14 kills, and a team-high 29 digs.
Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) added 18 kills Saturday and three block assists. Senior Jamie Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) posted 72 assists, 26 digs, and three block assists.
Junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) helped out the defense with 26 digs with sophomore Gabriella Martinez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista/Rio Piedras) notching 22.
With the split, the Wildcats improved to 3-1 on the season and returns to action on Friday at the Michigan Tech Invitational. NMU will take on Mary University and the 7th ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth on Friday. Saturday sees NMU facing St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University.
