NMU Volleyball Returns To Vandament Arena

MARQUETTE, Mich.  --  After two weeks away, Northern Michigan University's volleyball team returns to Vandament Arena to host Tiffin University and Ashland University in two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference matchups.

On Friday, the Wildcats take on Tiffin at 7 p.m.   This game can be followed with live stats and video.  NMU follows it Saturday with a 4:30 contest against Ashland which will also have live stats and video

GLIAC Stat Leaders:

NMU leads the GLIAC in four statistical categories.  The Wildcats rank first with 157 total blocks, averaging 2.95 blocks a set, and in aces with 82 total, averaging .55 aces a set.  

Wildcats in National Stat Rankings:

Several Wildcats are found in the NCAA stat rankings.  Senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wisc.) is second in blocks per set, fourth in total blocks and 24th in hitting percentage.  Junior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) is 21st nationally with 29 aces, and 18th with .55 aces per set.  Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) is 25th with 11.09 assists per set.  As a team, NMU is second in blocks per set and fourth in total blocks. 

September wins:

NMU won 11 matches during September, their best start to a season since 2012 when they won 12 matches the first month of a 20-win season.

Whitehead continues to rise:

Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) is eighth in NMU history with 1,151 career kills.  She needs 86 more to reach the school's top five. 


Block leader:

Chosa is third in NMU history with 95 solo bl0cks during her career, and is fourth with 314 total blocks since joining the Wildcats.

Monsma leads the GLIAC:

Monsma is currently ranked first in the GLIAC with 29 aces.

Last time out:

The Wildcats split last weekend, winning at Wayne State University 3-1, but fell to Grand Valley State University by the same 3-1 score.  Chosa and Monsma each finished with 23 kills to lead NMU.  

NMU versus Tiffin:

The Wildcats hold a 9-1 advantage over the Dragons, holding a 28-4 lead in set victories.  In last season's matchup, Tiffin collected their first win against NMU, winning the match 3-1.  

NMU versus Ashland:

NMU won the first 14 straight meetings between the two, but Ashland has had the advantage lately, winning eight of the last nine matchups, including 3-2 victories the past two seasons.
