SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Northern Michigan University Volleyball collected their second victory on opening day as they defeated Walsh University 3-0 in the Capital Classic.
Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) posted another double-double as she finished with 13 kills and 11 digs. Sha also added two aces.
Senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) finished the match with 32 assists and added eight digs.
Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) led the defense with 19 digs. Freshman Alli Yacko (Oak Lawn, Ill.) aided the effort with 12 digs and also led the team with four aces. Sophomore Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) posted nine digs.
The two teams stayed close throughout the first set, but NMU went on a late rally to win the set 25-21. The Wildcats proved too much for the Cavaliers in the second and third set as they took a 25-16 victory followed with a 25-15 third set win.
NMU is now 2-0 on the season and returns to action Saturday for two more matches, taking on Cedarville University at 12 p.m. Eastern and the host University of Illinois-Springfield at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
