  • NMU Cross Country Announces Team Award Winners

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team has named its individual award winners for the 2013 season. Sophomore Megan Edic (Most Valuable Player), junior Christina Toogood (Newcomer Award), sophomore Jaylee Brown (Most Improved) and junior Larissa Halonen (Scholar-Athlete) were honored on Saturday (April 26) at the Sports Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team recently closed out the 2013 season, under seven year veteran head coach, Jenny Ryan. The Wildcats won two of its meets and placed in the top 10 in the other five races, including a fifth place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
  • Farquhar Named Scholar-Athlete of the Month

    Marquette, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Athletic Council named Chelsea Farquhar as the NMU September Student-Athlete Scholar for the Month. Chelsea, a junior at NMU is a dual sport athlete participating on the cross-country and track and field teams. In 2013 she was one of the captains for the cross country team and an active member in the Student Nurses Association. In addition to nursing, she is enrolled in the University’s ROTC program, where upon graduation, she will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and begin active military duty. She was nominated by Dr. Lisa Flood, a professor in the Nursing Department to receive this award.
  • Cross Country Travels to Wisconsin for NCAA Regional

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – After a tie for fifth place at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships and a week off of competition, the Northern Michigan University cross country team will hit the trails this weekend at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Kenosha, Wis. The race begins at noon on Saturday (Nov. 9) afternoon. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 8 in the Midwest region.
  • Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Regionals

    KENOSHA, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team competed at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday (Nov. 9), finishing in fifth place out-of-27. NMU ended the race with 205 total points, while Grand Valley State was the winner of the day with 42 points. Saginaw Valley State (103), Hillsdale (132) and Lewis (174) placed second through fourth, respectively.

    HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team placed tied for fifth out-of-15 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday (Oct. 26) in Houghton, Mich., with a team score of 152. Ahead of the ‘Cats were Grand Valley State (30 points) , Saginaw Valley State (84), Malone (113) and Hillsdale (136) in places one through four, respectively.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – Coming off of a perfect score at its last meet, the No. 20 nationally ranked Northern Michigan University cross country team will compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday (Oct. 26) in Houghton. The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 11 a.m.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – In its lone home meet of the season, the No. 20-ranked Northern Michigan University cross country team placed first in the U.P. Championship from the NMU Golf Course. The Wildcats tallied a perfect team score of 15 with runners taking spots one through seven.

  • Cross Country Hosts UP Championship on Friday

    MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team is hosting its lone home meet of the year on Friday (Oct. 18). The UP Championship will get underway with the women’s 4-kilometer race at 4 p.m. followed by the men’s 6K at 4:45 p.m. at the NMU Golf Course.

  • Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Lucian Rosa Invite

    SOMERS, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team finished fifth out of 25 teams at the 27th annual Lucian Rosa Invite from the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Oct. 12). The Wildcats were the second Division II team, behind third place Hillsdale, and defeated Ferris State, UW-Parkside, Lewis and Minnesota-Duluth, along with four Division I teams.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University finished 9th out of 33 teams at the America’s largest cross country meet, the Roy Griak Invite, on Saturday (Sept. 28). Sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli led the Wildcats with an 11th place finish. She finished the 5-kilometer course, at Les Bolstad Golf Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota, in 22:59.6.

    HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team scored a perfect 15, sweeping the top five spots, at the Pre-GLIAC Meet held at Michigan Tech on Saturday (Sept. 21). Seven of the top eight runners were Wildcats.

    SOMERS, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team kicked off the 2013 season with a sixth place finish at the Midwest Collegiate Opener hosted by the University of Wisconsin Parkside. The Wildcats totaled 76 points as 16 teams competed at the race.
