MARQUETTE, Mich. – No. 13 University Women's Cross Country senior Kameron Burmeister (Menominee, Michigan) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Runner of the Week after a fourth place finish at the Wisconsin-Parkside Godfrey Open last Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Burmeister's time of 17 minutes, 55.70 seconds helped secure a second place finish overall for the Wildcats who were the top finishing NCAA Division II team at the event. NMU defeated a trio of NCAA I program en route to their runner up performance.
Burmeister was also the last NMU Women's Cross Country runner to earn the weekly accolade on September 27 of 2016. The honor marks the fourth time in her career that the senior has earned the weekly conference award, with one each year for the past four seasons.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top-25 and regional polls have the Wildcats in the same spots as the preseason poll released two weeks ago. Grand Valley State University sits atop the national poll as well as the Midwest Region rankings. The top nine teams in the regional poll did not change.
Next up for the Wildcats will be the Spartan Invite to be held Friday, September 16 in East Lansing Michigan. A year ago, NMU placed seventh out of 12 NCAA II teams to compete in the field which totaled over 350 runners.
