Cross Country Finishes 16th at Largest DII Race In Country

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Northern Michigan University Cross Country team took part in the Conference Crossover, the largest Division II only event in the country. In a field of 36 teams, the Wildcats placed 16th overall.


Freshman Madison Malon (Grandville, Mich.) led NMU by placing 42nd by covering the 6K course in a time of 23:39.6. Senior Katelyn Smith (Gaylord, Mich.) was 64th, crossing in at 24:01.3. 

Senior Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minn.) was 71st with a time of 24:09.3 while freshman Paige Saiz (Milford, Mich.) clocked in at 24:44.9 for 119th.


Three others scored points for the Wildcats. Senior Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wis.) was 136th with a time of 24:53.8. Freshman Meghan Langworthy (Big Rapids, Mich.) was 141st in 24:59.5 with Anna Kelley (Minneapolis, Minn.) coming in at 25:12.3 for 160th place.

NMU placed 16th in a crowded field of 36 teams with race time temperature in the lower 40's and featured over 20 mile per hour winds, making it feel like the 30s at times.  The Wildcats finishing with a total of 432 points placing them ahead of three other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams.


The Wildcats will return to the Upper Peninsula to host the U.P. Championships on Friday, October 18, starting at 3 p.m. at the Northern Michigan University Golf Course
