  • Seniors Lead Wildcats at Midwest Regional

    HILLSDALE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women’s Cross Country finished the 2018 campaign Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championships hosted by Hillsdale College. The Wildcats turned in an 11th-place finish as a team, falling less than 20 points shy of a top-10 finish in the six-kilometer race.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women’s Cross Country began their 2018 postseason schedule Saturday afternoon at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Wildcats finished fifth as a team lead by senior Sophie McDonald (Park City, Utah) who turned in an all-conference performance.

NMU Nordic Skiing junior Ian Torchia (Rochester, Minnesota) and Women's Swimming & Diving sophomore Rachel Helm (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year; NMU Volleyball head coach Mike Lozier was awarded the Coach of the Year honor; NMU Women's Basketball junior Taylor Hodell (Wausau, Wisconsin) received the Humanitarian of the Year award; while NMU Hockey senior Robbie Payne (Gaylord, Michigan) and Cross Country and Track & Field senior Kameron Burmeister (Menominee, Michigan) earned the Male and Female Gildo Canale Outstanding Senior awards.

Burmeister’s efforts guided the Wildcats to a 13th-place finish at the Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Evansville, Indiana.

    EVANSVILLE, Ind.—A weather threat has altered the schedule of the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships. The Northern Michigan University Women’s Cross Country team will be competing at Saturday’s national meet to be held at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana.
